First Steps

Ok….it’s 1:00am and i just ate for the 7th time today(and nothing good for me) and realized that I cannot just sit around thinking about doing this, So here I am asking for help… I have talked it over with myself 1000 times of what I need to do but for some reason thats as far as I get,  I am watching my family and myself get fatter and more unhealthy, I have to make this step. I guess I just don’t understand why it’s so hard and so scarry? I just need to make a commitment to myself. Right? Why cant I do that? I think I have finaly come to the point that I need friends who understand where I am coming from not my in shape boyfriend who I think although loves me to death is wondering where the old me has gone, and my daughters are gaining right along with me just laugh it off, Friends who can eat anything and are stick thin. I am tired of being tired all the time. Am I ready for this? to make a serious commitment?? YES YES I am!!

Now where do I go from here I have no idea on how to even start, Help?

Get more sleep for starters http://www.thedietchannel.com/Weight-Loss-and-Sleep.htm

You need to provide healthy choices for your daughters. Big garbage can and clear out the pantry and fridge. Only buy healthy from now on. ( this is only useful advice if you have junk in your pantry/fridge…. otherwise bleep…. ignore this advice ;-) )

Good for you…….. you are making the public commitment. Keep blogging. It’s ok to admit your failures too. I do

Amen to getting more sleep. It’s 7:15 am here, where I just found your post, and I have to say that 1:00 am snack sounds mighty familiar. I had to start putting myself to bed at night, being as strict with myself as I am with the kids, because my body tends to confuse fatigue and hunger. I’ll be DYING for sleep, and think “A ham sandwich would be great right now.”

I also started watching this show: “You are What You Eat” on BBC-America. Just watching people lose weight and get healthy just by eating a ton of vegetables and fruit and whole grains, and exercising for just 20 minutes a day makes a huge impact!

We stopped buying sodas and chips altogether and started having fruit and vegetables with every meal, and either fruits or nuts or seeds for snacks.

My family has started jogging together.

It’s a start! Just one little change at a time until it all adds up to a healthy lifestyle. Just pick a baby step and DO it!

First stop is nutrition. sparkpeople can help with that as they have an excellent nutrition tracker that will show you what you need to take in and you try to meet there specs. They teach you how to eat healthy. You will have to read labels. I buy fresh fruit and veggies for snacks in my house, I dont even go down the snack isle at the grocery store. No soda, I get my kids gatorade and they are allowed one a day after that it is water. I myself drink water only and on occasion I have a diet soda for a treat. Shut the tv off and turn on the radio, you will be amazed at how you find things to do when the tv is off, and your kids will to. Small changes made over time will get your to a healthier lifestyle and education, read about it, read about nutrition and exercise. Good luck to you. You can do this. Change your life to a healthier one for you and your children. Teach them how to be healthy so they dont suffer like you are now later in life. It is worth it. Let the wieght you lose be a reward for your healthy lifestyle changes.

Kellyluck has a great idea, there! Thumbs up! Made me remember that the healthiest I’ve ever been in my life was the three years we lived overseas and didn’t have cable and only had one english-speaking channel. We watched maybe an hour of tv a week, and the rest of the time we just had the radio on! I’m going back to that - I miss it.
